Girl of Nightmares by Kendare Blake

I liked Anna Dressed in Blood. I thought it was clever and striking and funny with interesting characters and great action sequences. This didn’t claw at my heart the way the first one did. For some reason, I didn’t engage with Girl of Nightmares the way I did the first book. I can’t really explain why this book didn’t work I just know it didn’t. Anna is a strong, saucy, certifiable insane, serial killing “ghostess with the mostess” in the first book. She was none of those things in Girl of Nightmares and I’m not sure if that is the cause of my lack of enthusiasm for this book.

Girl of Nightmares begins a few months after the end of Anna Dressed in Blood. Where Anna Dressed in Blood was fun, Girl of Nightmares was just eh. Girl of Nightmares takes the book / series in a new direction and I really wasn’t feeling it. Honestly the ending of Girl of Nightmares was similar… maybe similar is not the right word, it was very much a parallel to Anna Dressed in Blood that I was left feeling what was the point.
