How I Stole Johnny Depp’s Alien Girlfriend by Gary Ghislain

HowIStoleHow I Stole Johnny Depp’s Alien Girlfriend by Gary Ghislain is fun book and wastes no time getting to the entertainment. I read this book online while ‘working’ at a crappy temp job. The title alone grabbed me but the zany material kept me going. I couldn’t finish this book by the time the free e-book expired and so I ended up buying it for the last 20 pages because I had to know how this was going to end. Defiantly original and it keeps you guessing up until the very end. I have an immense appreciation for books that don’t bother overdoing it in length. This book sails through the plot, and is a fun and exhilarating ride.

David Gershwin’s summer is about to take a turn for the crazy. He is spending the summer with his dad, a psychiatrist, when a new patient, Zelda, is brought it. She tells him she is from outer space and on a quest to take Johnny Depp back to her planet. Is she crazy? Or is she an alien? Ghislain does a wonderful job of toying with the reader about Zelda. I found myself constantly going back and forth on whether she was certifiable or if she truly was an alien.

The characters are quirky, and though our protagonist is a young boy, most of the central speakers in the book are tough females. David, our young narrator, is literally locked into a world full of powerful ladies, and he’s happy to let them lead the way.

I highly recommend this book to anyone looking for a pleasant change of pace in their reading material.
