The Savages by Matt Whyman

17315389Behold the power of the inside jacket of a book. I went to the crack whorehouse AKA bookstore on my lunch break to just look around. I’m looking at all the books and I’m like got it, read it, gonna read it, hated it, loved it, ohhhhh this is new. What’s this? Yeah, that whole looking around thing never really works for me but once I read the description of the book, I had to get it. Come on, how could I not buy a book about cannibals? 😉

The Savages are a close-knit family and the family that eats together, sticks together. Things start to crack when Sasha Savage starts dating Jack – a handsome, charming … vegetarian. Which would be bad enough if it wasn’t for the fact that her family has a long tradition of cannibalism. Of course bloody mayhem ensues when the family finds out about Jack and it’s, well, bloody brilliant.

The characters are great and believable, not to mention the plot is fantastic. I just couldn’t guess what’s going to happen next which kept me turning the pages. People, who do not appreciate very dark British humor, will probably not fully appreciate the awesomeness of this novel. It’s a totally sick yet funny take on a family of cannibals although it’s done in a way that is not too serious or graphic. I am very happy with my impulse buy and I can’t wait for the next book to come out.
