A Monster Calls by Patrick Ness, Jim Kay (Illustrator), Siobhan Dowd (Conception)

8621462A Monster Calls has been on my reading list since the book came out. So I was super duper excited that is was a required reading for my class. I am not sure what I thought this was going to be but I was not prepared for how phenomenal it was or the hysterical crying that resulted.

The monster showed up after midnight. As they do.

But it isn’t the monster Conor’s been expecting. He’s been expecting the one from his nightmare, the one he’s had nearly every night since his mother started her treatments, the one with the darkness and the wind and the screaming…

This monster is something different, though. Something ancient, something wild. And it wants the most dangerous thing of all from Conor.

It wants the truth.

I have no words to do this book justice. I also don’t want to spoil the magic of discovering what this is all about. Just read it. You will not be disappointed.
