So THIS and Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo (SQUEAL) were the only two books that I desperately wanted at BEA. I was pleasantly surprised to see so many people waiting for Josephine Angelini and her next book in the series.
In Trial by Fire, we last saw Lilly and Rowan burn, literally. Fire Walker begins moments later with Lilly and Rowan in ‘another world’. (If you want to know if Lilly and Rowan make it back to Lilly’s world, well you are just going to have to read the book to find out. I won’t spoil the fun.) But after all that Lillian has done to find Lilly, she isn’t going to just let her get away…
The first 6 chapters, about 130 pages, were painfully pointless. And it is such a disappointment because I was willing to shank anyone who got in my way of getting an ARC of this and it turns out that it did not meet my expectations. I’ve said this once and I’ve said it a million times, I don’t need 100+ pages of this is what happened in book 1. Fire Walker is plagued with pages after pages of this is who Lilly is, this is what she can do. But within a page or two she sells the idea of claiming a group of people to start a new coven in the world that Lilly and Rowan end up in. The book picks up after chapter 6 and it is like an old school roller coaster. Ya know, when you are the bottom and you inch your way up to the top. Like literally inch your way and then you drop and the drop was fun but after you are like eh, not sure all the waiting around was worth it. Yeah, it was kinda like that. Fire Walker starts at the very bottom and as the chapters go on it gets better and better until the awesome conclusion but overall the book was just okay. I really feel and hope that Fire Walker laid out the foundation for awesomeness in book three.
Fire Walker by Josephine Angelini comes out Sept 1, 2015.
