Illuminae (The Illuminae Files #1) by by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff

23395680So there is an attack on a planet and people have to flee on several space ships to survive which leads to a several month journey of fleeing the attackers. Think Battlestar but nowhere near as cool or awesome or amazing.

First and foremost, I wanted to read this book simply for the design. Years in marketing departments, I can really appreciate the art and thought that went into the design of this book. Let this be a lesson to me, never judge a book by it’s cover, no matter how fancy.

I have had many friends read this and love it. I have also seen this on many best of lists. However, for me this was a painful read. It was sorta, kinda interesting but as soon as I put it down, I totally forgot about it. It took me over 4 months to read. The magic of the book design just wasn’t there for me in the words. Like I’m not even going to waste my time trying to give you a summary because you and I have better things to do. The ending has a nice twist but this was so painful that I doubt very much that I will even consider book 2.
