When robot Roz opens her eyes for the first time, she discovers that she is alone on a remote, wild island. She is the only survivor of a ship wreck but she doesn’t know that. She only knows what she has been programed to do and that is to learn and adapt to her environment. So she tries to learn from the island’s animal inhabitants. Of course cuteness ensues.
I enjoyed this book on so many levels. The cuteness of a robot trying to be live wild animals. In the beginning all the wild animals are afraid of the monster (Roz) and I enjoyed seeing how Roz overcomes this. This is a story about not only making friends but finding and learning what makes you you. I would say that this book is a bit too easy for middle schoolers, so I think this is geared more towards the elementary age children. Regardless, it was very much enjoyable. Highly recommend The Wild Robot.
